Some of what the fans had to say:

“Still quite young but promising, has played some good games. Needed to be given more of a chance. Probably passed Alessio as number two ruckman. Next year needs to be a good one with our lack of ruck supply.” David Sullivan

“David seems to have at least one moment in every game in which he looks like a certain star of the future. Nevertheless, he has not had a big impact yet. Must continue to improve, but hopefully will do so.” John Haley

""What a great job that he has done. Came in as our main ruckman. He is also a promising star and we will have big plans for him in the future.” Hannah Pope

“Very good around the ground but never had an impact in the ruck. Good quality ruckman take time to mature. Certainly worth keeping on going with because he has shown great ability.” David Plowright

“Still hasn't managed to step up this year, can take a great mark but needs to read the play a bit better. With a bit more experience he should develop into a very good player.” Michelle Gardiner

“At times he has provided us with some strength in the ruck however he needs more confidence also needs to bulk up a bit.” Amanda Scicluna

“Steady as she goes type season. Given opportunities but it sometimes take longer for big men to mature. Skills at times on the forward line have been impressive.” Paul Ellul

“Played second fiddle to Paul Salmon a lot this year. A very mobile ruckman who can dominate as far as getting kicks is concerned, very much a John Barnes type. Needs to work on bulk as well as his ruck work - two areas that let him down in 2002.” Steven Dick

THE WASH UP:

Fans say the Bombers should stick with Hille, as he displayed the potential to be a key position player or ruckman for Essendon. They felt that with some more confidence and experience he should continue to improve but he must ensure he has a bigger impact next year.

MARK HARVEY SAYS:

David Hille has got to assume responsibility as our first ruckman in 2003. He showed some encouraging signs last season both at centre half forward and in the ruck He has got to get his hands on the ball more often at ruck contests than he does at the moment. He then has to get himself into positions on the ground where he will have more influence on the game.
