A number of Bomber players will require minor post season procedures following the conclusion of an intense and gruelling  football season.

General manager of football operations Paul Hamilton said the full playing list had undergone medical reviews during the course of the week at the club.

“There are definitely some sore bodies around and the club has undertaken medical reviews, and we’re now exploring surgical opinions,” Hamilton said.

“The players have all been given specific individual programs from our new high performance coach and will have a small period of rest. They are professional athletes so they’ll rest for a little while but they’ll be back doing their programs very soon.

“We want to ensure all the players are ready to go come the start of pre-season.”

Hamilton said key players including Michael Hurley, Mark McVeigh and Brent Stanton would require minor post-season procedures.

“Despite the attention surrounding his injury, Michael won’t actually require surgery to his foot. His stress reaction means that he will only need to wear a moonboot for a period of about four-six weeks.

“The medical team have also had a look at his wrist as he sustained some minor damage to that previously. While he will require slight surgery on his wrist, he should be fine leading in to the pre-season which is a great result.

“Mark McVeigh is looking at having a hip-procedure - an arthroscopy of sorts - as is Brent Stanton. While that is quite a minor thing, it means they both won’t be able to run for a period of six weeks or so, but we will welcome them back for the pre-season,” Hamilton said.

Key defender Tayte Pears, who was subbed out early from last Sunday’s game against Carlton, sustained a minor hamstring injury and will be monitored.

“Tayte did a slight hamstring which is the first time he has done a soft-tissue injury. We know he has had other injury problems over the course of his career but it is a relatively minor injury,"" Hamilton said.

“He will have a bit of post-season work done around his ankle and he should be right to go come the start of pre-season.""

Andrew Welsh and Tom Bellchambers will also be monitored by the club's medical team following slight knee and ankle complaints.

“Tom Bellchambers requires an arthroscopy on his knee just to see if there are any ongoing concerns or problems. They’ll also have a look at Andrew Welsh and his ankle niggle,” he said.

Hamilton said the post-season medical review was pleasing.

“Overall, it’s not too bad in terms of surgery and in fact, it’s probably one of our best years in terms of the procedures- or lack of procedures - that need to take place,” he said.

“We’re quite bullish that at this stage everyone should be raring to go heading in to the upcoming pre-season.

“We’re here to improve and build – we want to get strong, fitter, smarter and more skilful and there is always a lot of work to be done in the pre-season.

“It will be a difficult pre-season as Hirdy has made quite clear but we’re looking forward to it and ready to go.”
