Football has always been Scott Gumbleton’s first love and the Bombers big man is looking forward to getting over some debilitating injuries and playing some great football in season 2012.
But, as almost all players on AFL lists do, Scott is also preparing for life after football and has been undertaking work and study away from the Club.
Gumbleton is completing his carpentry apprenticeship with
“Coming from a town where all my mates are doing trades, it’s something that I’ve always been interested in. I’m not a ‘sit down in an office’ type of person; I’m an outdoors type of person,” Gumbleton said.
His mates have gone into different jobs: mostly electricians, carpenters and plumbers.
Gumbleton chose carpentry because he loved his woodworking classes at school. He made the usual things like “a wine rack and little tables” but loved the experience.
Now he works on much larger projects and is involved in the construction of homes from beginning to end.
He loves being outdoors and the combination of on-the-job training and study at TAFE. At TAFE he does “planning and drawing, so it’s not all construction” as well as practical work on the fundamentals of carpentry. “We do basic hand skills, things like small joins. Recently I made a tool box.”
