Essendon Football Club would like to extend its deepest sympathies to the Bergin family, after Shaun Bergin passed away this morning, aged 26.
Bergin has been in the Alfred Hospital since September 4, when he was injured in an Eastern Football League qualifying final.
The former Hawthorn rookie was knocked unconscious in a marking contest. He was placed in an induced coma.
The Bergin family made the heartbreaking decision to turn off his life support this morning.
""The thoughts of everyone in the football community are with the Bergin family,"" Essendon chief executive Ian Robson said.
""Essendon Football Club offers its sincere condolences to the family, friends, club memebers and teammates of Shaun Bergin during this extremely tough time.""
