Essendon captain Jobe Watson has won yet another award this season after he was this evening announced the winner of the Lou Richards medal.

The 27-year-old took out the award voted on by the Channel Nine Sunday Footy Show by three votes with 97 votes ahead of Gold Coast captain Gary Ablett on 94 votes.

Watson was named All Australian for the first time earlier this week and it is the first time he has won the Lou Richards Medal.

""It is a big thrill for me and it was probably the most consistent year I have had,"" Watson said in accepting the award.

Watson is one of the favourites to take out the Brownlow medal on Monday night but is set to face stiff opposition from Trent Cotchin and Gary Ablett.
