Essendon forward Jayden Laverde will be sidelined for approximately a fortnight after sustaining minor ligament damage in his ankle.
The 22-year-old was injured in the second quarter of the Bombers’ VFL practice match against Sandringham at Trevor Barker Beach Oval on Saturday afternoon.
General manager of football Dan Richardson said the club was relieved the injury was not as severe as initially thought.
“We’re disappointed for Jayden, and he is likely to miss the next one to two weeks, but the pleasing news is there no bone damage,” Richardson said.
“While there is still swelling in the affected area, this will subside in the coming days and we will closely manage Jayden’s rehabilitation program to ensure a return to the field as soon as possible.”
