Essendon Captain Jobe Watson is on track to return to the side for the match against West Coast on Saturday.
Watson missed the Bombers loss to Geelong on the weekend.
“He had a little strain of the adductor. He did play out the game and it’s at the lower end,” Club Doctor Bruce Reid said.
“He’s out there training today. We won’t take him quite to top end speed until Thursday but we expect Jobe to play.”
Dustin Fletcher is recovering well from a similar injury but may not make the trip west.
There is better news for midfielder David Zaharakis who is a chance to return after missing a month with an ankle injury.
“We expect David to play. He’s full training today so as long as he doesn’t pull up sore we expect him to be fit for selection,” Dr Reid said.
Jason Winderlich collected 18 possessions in his return to the VFL on the weekend.
The veteran got through the game unscathed.
Like Winderlich, Nick Kommer has spent considerable time on the injury list.
But the West Australian is nearly back to full fitness and is set to return to the field this weekend.
“He’s missed over 12 months with a knee cap injury,” Dr Reid said.
“Nick will play this week.”
David Myers is about a month away from returning from his shoulder injury while Heath Hocking could resume in about a fortnight.
“Heath Hocking is joining in some of the drills today and our aim for him is after the bye,” Dr Reid said.
