Club royalty joined in for Essendon’s media and content day on Monday morning, with four of their famed 1965 Premiership winners on hand at the NEC Hangar.

The Bombers’ oldest living Premiership Captain in Ken Fraser reunited with former flag teammates including John Birt (the Dons’ oldest living Premiership player), Darryl Gerlach and Alec “Kookaburra” Epis.

Essendon hosted the four past champions throughout the morning and included each of them in variants of the 2025 squad’s team photo.

Combining the quartet’s football resume would amount to 739 games and seven Premierships, with Fraser, Birt and Epis each playing in the ’62 and ’65 triumphs together, while Gerlach achieved footy’s ultimate in the latter.

All four players are in the Essendon Hall of Fame, with Gerlach inducted in 2013 and Epis (a member of the VFL/AFL Italian Team of the Century) also inducted in 2014.

Fraser and Birt, each Club Hall of Fame Legends, were also named in the Bombers’ Champions of Essendon list in 2002, immortalising the 25 greatest players in Club history.
