After ten rounds of the AFL season the interstate teams continue to lead the competition. They hold the top six positions on the AFL ladder and all defeated Victorian teams over the weekend apart from West Coast who were beaten by Essendon yesterday at the Dome. Brisbane sits on top spot on the ladder and are six points clear of second placed West Coast. Richmond is placed the highest of the ten Victorian clubs and is currently in sixth position.

Round 10 kicked off on Friday night at AAMI Stadium when newly formed rivals Port Adelaide faced Collingwood. Gavin Wanganeen starred for the home team kicking three goals and finishing with 21 disposals. Port wrapped up the win in the second half kicking 10 goals to Collingwood's five to win by 25-points.

The Western Bulldogs still only have one win to its name after going down to the Kangaroos by 11-points. It was a close affair all game at The Dome but the Kangaroos were too strong in the end. The win put the team from Arden Street back in the top eight.

Despite it being Melbourne's home game they faced the reigning premiers at the Gabba. Brisbane got away to a flying start and was 40-points up before Melbourne scored their first goal. It was catch-up footy from then on and the result was beyond doubt. Brisbane lead by their skipper Michael Voss took the four points and ended up winning by 60-points.

Sydney scored the upset of the round defeating Richmond at the MCG by 32-points. The Swans went into the match undermanned without the likes of Michael O'Loughlin, Darren Cresswell and Jason Saddington but ten goals to six in the second half set-up the win. Jude Bolton led the Swans charge finishing with 21 disposals and kicking two goals.

Fremantle continued to show that it is capable of winning in Melbourne this season when it disposed of Carlton by 28-points at Optus Oval. The Fremantle mid-field was the catalyst behind the win. Paul Hasleby and Matthew Carr notched up 50 possessions between them and kicked two goals. Fremantle led at every change and put in a solid four-quarter performance to record their seventh win for the season.

St.Kilda ended its two game losing streak yesterday when it took the points against Hawthorn. It was a close affair all game with no more than a goal separating the two sides at each change until St.Kilda booted five goals to Hawthorn's two in the final term to run out winners by 28-points. Robert Harvey was back to his brilliant best finishing with 40 disposals.

In a finals like atmosphere yesterday at The Dome Essendon recorded its fifth win for the season against West Coast. Essendon was again undermanned and went into the match without James Hird, Dustin Fletcher, Adam Ramanauskas, Joe Misiti, Paul Barnard and Damien Peverill. For the first time this season Essendon kicked the first goal of the game and played four quarters of consistent team football. Matthew Lloyd finished with six goals and Adam McPhee booted four goals from the wing to set-up the 22-point victory.
