Coach James Hird says the Bombers are confident of securing some key talent in Thursday’s AFL Draft, with a quality midfielder high on the Club’s agenda.

“We have gone and met a number of players but certainly a quality midfielder would be a bonus for us,” Hird said.

“Obviously we have got a little bit of a deficiency in the midfield so that is something that we are looking at but the Club’s policy has always been to get the best player available so we will have to wait and see what happens with the other seven picks before us.”

Hird said while the Bombers priority is to bolster its midfield, there are also a number of key position players that have been on the Club’s radar.

“We are having a look at a ruckman and a key forward because you have to take the view that you are not just drafting for the new few years, you are drafting for the next five to ten years,” Hird said.

“It is pretty obvious that we have some good key forwards and defenders on our list but you can always top them up and in five years time we will need another ruckman so you never know.”

Despite the Gold Coast’s draft concessions, Hird is confident in the depth of the talent pool.

“I think it is very good considering Gold Coast have had all of those picks and 17-year-olds last year,” he said.

“I think the players left are still very high quality so I think it is a very high quality draft.”
