Essendon has selected Archer Day-Wicks from the Bendigo Pioneers with pick No.6 in the 2024 Rookie Draft.

A slick left-footer with strong marking talent and a keen eye for goal, Day-Wicks impressed with the Pioneers and in his performances for Vic Country in the National Championships this season.

At 186cm, the 18-year-old provides a lively option as both a deeper forward and in support up the ground - Day-Wicks plays with confidence and has natural x-factor with ball in hand, booting four goals in three games for Country at national level.

Day-Wicks' most impressive display came against Western Australia at the Championships where he took seven marks from 14 disposals and emphasised his ability as an aerial prospect.

The midfielder-forward enjoys splitting time in different roles and was often utilised across all three lines in his tenure at Bendigo - he's also capable of playing inside roles, with an appetitite for pressure and contested ball.

Day-Wicks will join the club to begin training alongside the full squad next Monday.
