Celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of the 1984/85 Premierships – arguably the most important period in the history of the Essendon Football Club - were officially launched today.

Club legends Simon Madden and Terry Daniher joined Matthew Knights at a media conference to announce a range of club activities.

Managing director and CEO, Peter Jackson, said one of the strengths of Essendon is a commitment to honouring its history and those that created it.

""As a club – and a playing group - it is critical we understand the people and achievements that have gone before us and this is an ideal opportunity for us to do just that,"" he said.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary, Essendon:

1. Has produced a book – Glory & Fame: The Rise and Rise of Essendon Football Club. The book traces the club’s journey out of the 1970’s through until the modern day. It has largely been produced to coincide with the 25th anniversary of 1984.

2. Is holding a celebration event - Glory and Fame: A celebration of the 1984/85 Premierships – at Crown Palladium on Saturday 4 July. We anticipate in excess of 1200 people attending this event including members of the 1984/85 Grand Final sides.

3. Has created a range of 1984/85 memorabilia. This will include a run of prints and commemorative guernseys.

4. Will today unveil a new section on the club website with information and highlights about the 1984/85 celebrations and teams.

5. Is inviting 1984/85 players back to the club to engage in activities, such as training sessions, with current players.

""The current player leadership group is making a conscious effort to re-engage players from 1984/85 back with the club,"" Mr Jackson said.
