Recently the EFC unearthed an amazing piece of forgotten memorabilia - an antique ""Victorian"" model Billiard table, No 5127, manufactured by Alcock & Co (now Alcock Thomson Taylor Pty Ltd) in the early years of the twentieth century.

Made in Australia sometime between 1901 - 1915, the full size Billiard table once assembled had many of the old stories surfacing about past billiard games after football training between legends of the Club. Removed from Windy Hill during our numerous restorations and held forgotten in storage for years, the history of sudden death billiard competitions have added another dimension to our EFC history.

In 2001, the Billiard table was still in great structural condition but needed further effort to bring it back to it's original glory. Essendon chief executive Peter Jackson ordered a full restoration. With a strict criteria several companies were interviewed and after many weeks the project was given to George Alcock and the original manufacturers. The slate bed was carefully checked and planed to true spirit level. New cushions were fitted to the cushion rails, featuring Australian made Excelsior moulded rubbers and recovered along with the bed with Strachan 6811 3 oz fine grade West of England billiard cloth. New pocket nets were fitted and all leathers repolished. All parts of the Queensland silky Oak timbers were sanded and repolished and the Essendon Football Club had a special plaque fitted to the table stating its origins.

The effect has been incredible and the club is thrilled with the final result. The EFC wishes to find the table a secure and appreciated home for this collector's item -which would ultimately be the show piece in any game room. The antique table is being offered to the highest bidder with a reserve set at $12,500. For information or offers, please contact Lucy Mariani @ EFC on 9230 0360.
