Some of what the fans had to say:

“Has disappointed during his time at Essendon although I don't believe the match committee gave him a chance to settle in the side.” Robert Lorenzetto.

“Not given enough opportunity. In the few games he did play he seemed to be well balanced and had good hands. It wouldn't surprise to see another club pick him up in the draft and end up with a good player with a cheap pick.” Brett Geddes.

“Unable to find a consistent position in the seniors. May have more opportunities elsewhere.” John Harink.

“Daniel has been given six seasons to develop into an AFL player but it hasn't quite worked out. Shows promise and hopefully will be drafted by another club.” Simon Remington.

“Limited opportunity but definate talent. Good luck to him at his next club.” Andrew Sivijs.

“Had some good games in the VFL side however it was unfortunate that he couldn't establish himself in the side.” Eamon Stafford.

THE WASH UP:

Essendon supporters were divided on the performances of Daniel McAlister. Some felt he had his chances but did not make the most of them. Other felt only a lack of opportunities to break into a very strong senior side prevented him from being a regular senior player. Many felt he had given his all during his time with the club and could leave with his head held high.

MARK HARVEY SAYS:

Daniel was certainly an excellent player at VFL level but a couple of things went against him when it came to the seniors. Firstly, it was a very difficult side to break into for much of his time with the club and secondly, he got a couple of injuries and suspensions at the wrong time. It wouldn’t surprise me if another club took a punt on him.
