Essendon coach Kevin Sheedy presented Hardwick with his life membership. ""My wife won't be happy with me, I didn't even cry at the birth of my two children,"" Hardwick joked as he struggled to address the audience. ""It is hard coming back to see everyone again. You spend so much of your life with these players, you go to their weddings and things like that. This really means means a lot me,"" Hardwick said.
Hardwick flew in from Adelaide late yesterday afternoon to accept the award before heading back to Adelaide. His family has recently re-located to Adelaide after purchasing a house in Glenelg.
For the remainder of December and into the New Year, the Engine Room will be running profiles of each player on the Essendon senior list. We will have a look at what went right in 2001 and what went wrong. What will the coaching staff want from each player and how might they be used in 2002. Today we take a look at JAMES DAVIES. Davies is a high-quality young player who the Bombers will be very keen to see develop significantly in 2002. He failed to play senior football in 2001 and he will be very keen to rectify that in 2002.
