Essendon Football Club would like to congratulate Anjilunga Lorulla woman Mary Dunn, who has been recognised as the 2024 AFLW Indigenous Round Honouree.
The fifth person to be named as Honouree for the dedicated round, Dunn has played a big role in developing the Tiwi Bombers' football programs over a long-spanning period, particularly within the women's space.
Helping establish the first Tiwi women's team, Dunn was also integral in the creation of the inaugural Tiwi Islands Football League Women's competition in 2023, which now hosts more than 300 players and seven teams across the islands - their premiership cup is named after her.
Through Essendon's partnership with the Tiwi Bombers and thanks to Coles, Dunn was one of the key figures invited to the NEC Hangar earlier this year for the Tiwi Coaching Exchange, which saw a group of influential and aspiring coaches spend time around the club's facilities and learn the inner workings of our AFLW program.
Dunn was celebrated at today's AFLW Dreamtime in Darwin launch at TIO Stadium, alongside AFL Executive General Manager of Inclusion and Social Policy Tanya Hosch, Essendon Co-Captain Bonnie Toogood and Richmond's Vice-Captain Gabby Seymour.
