Captain Jobe Watson is the sole Essendon player nominated for the All Australian team which will be announced in Melbourne tonight.

Watson had a stellar 2012 season playing all 22 games for the Bombers averaging 15.6 kicks and 13.4 handballs a game as well as being ranked sixth in the AFL for total disposals and third in the AFL for clearances.

Selection in tonight’s team would be his first All Australian honour and put the 27-year-old in contention to be named the All Australian captain after last week being voted Best Captain at the AFLPA awards.

Watson is up against six other AFL captains for the honour of the All Australian captaincy with Matthew Pavlich, Joel Selwood, Gary Ablett, Andrew Swallow, Nick Riewoldt and Darren Glass also nominated in the 40 man squad.

The All Australian selection panel of eight is Andrew Demetriou (Chairman), Adrian Anderson, Kevin Bartlett, Luke Darcy, Danny Frawley, Gerrard Healy, Glen Jakovich, Mark Ricciuto.

The All Australian team will be announced on FOX Footy Channel at 8.30pm tonight.
