Essendon's new recruits Michael Hurley and David Zaharakis played their first game at a senior level in Essendon's NAB semi final loss to Collingwood on Friday.

The former Northern Knights teammates and co-captains of last year's Vic Metro team, Hurley and Zaharakis were Essendon’s first two selections in the 2008 draft.

In this week's poll we ask which of these two recruits impressed you the most?

Last week we asked if zoning is ruining AFL football and an overwhelming 71.55% of people voted 'yes' while 20% of people said we are all getting 'too carried away',4.23% of fans voted 'no' and 4.23% said 'maybe'.

Here's what some of the fans had to say:

James from Berwick, Vic says: How can you say it is ruining footy? This is what footy is now. Premierships have been won from defence for years. Geelong, West Coast etc have no forward line at all. The game is becoming more defnsive, but on the flip side, turn-overs happen more frequently, and quick scores are the result. Our game is becoming more about fitness and skill, rather than brute force. This is a good thing.

Realist from Tarneit says: Zoning is another fad in AFL football that will last until sides like Geelong, and hopefully Essendon, win plenty of games by playing fast moving football that breaks the zone.

Joseph Attard from Taylors Hill says: No is my answer. If that's what it will take to win a match, then go for it. I'm sure the supporters wouldn't mind it if it led to a Premiership.

Matt from Geelong says: Although Essendon tried to play attacking football on Friday night, Brisbane were successful in turning the game into a boring game of basketball. Who ever said soccer was boring and AFL was exiting would only have to grab a copy of the game to see how quickly AFL is becoming so very very similar. Knighta please continue to try to come up with an attacking plan that nulifies these negative tactics. GO BOMBERS

Ted from Mildura says: If current NAB cup games are an indication it will not be worth watching - hope this is not the case!

G Sloan from Somerville VIC says: Let's not panic. The game is always changing. If everyone starts using the same tactics it just means that someone will innovate a new game style and the cycle starts again. The game has evolved constantly since day one and will continue to.

Debbie Martin from Narre Warren VIC says: AFL players should not be expected to run the whole length of the ground each week. In case they haven't noticed, a football ground is a little bigger than a basketball court. Bring back man-on-man football with real contests! That's what our great game is all about.

Ben from Melton says: I hope Essendon will not employ this tactic. I think we should play our own brand of footy and find other defensive tactics instead of copying another teams.

Tim from Leeds/West Yorkshire, UK says: Zoning is the least of our troubles. The amount of soft rule changes over the last few years are more of a reason of concern for the game being 'ruined'.

Andrew from Altona Meadows, VIC says: Zoning is apart of the game! I believe teams just haven't yet found the perfect and easiest way to attack a zone properly. Which is why people think it's 'ugly' or 'ruining the game'. Soon enough teams and coaches will figure out a way to get around it and all this drama will be forgotten!
