Goddard in awe of new home
With the Bombers move to the new High Performance Centre at Melbourne Airport nearing closer, Essendon midfielder Brendon Goddard stepped inside the 60x40 metre indoor training hall for the first time and said he was blown away by the size of the building.
“It is pretty impressive, it’s quiet big so this area here is going to be pretty important for us come wintertime,” Goddard said.
“It is looking great, this area will be the first area finished so we are looking forward to moving in.”
The 27-year-old said the facility was set to provide the players with premium conditions to train and prepare every week.
“For the boys it gives us the best chance to prepare Monday to Friday for games,” he said.
“Obviously Windy Hill is not up to scratch compared to where other teams are in terms of their facilities.”
“I have been with a club previously who had to move and have seen the benefits of that so for the whole footy club to move out here it is a fresh start, something new and exciting.”
The Bombers will wear a special Flight Plan guernsey for this weekend’s match against Brisbane at Etihad Stadium.
The guernsey has embedded on it the names of fans, players and staff who have donated specifically to have their name on the jumper.
Goddard recognised all of the donors on the jumper for their support in getting the building off the ground.
“We thank everyone on this jumper for their contribution and their continued contribution because it is ongoing and without these peoplethis facility wouldn’t be up and running,” he said.
An auction of all match-worn Flight Plan guernsey’s will be held following the match with all funds raised being donated to the Flight Plan Fund.
More details of the signed match worn guernsey auction will be communicated later in the week.
