A number of senior Essendon players will come into consideration for selection ahead of Friday night’s blockbuster against Hawthorn at Etihad Stadium.

Heath Hocking, David Zaharakis, Jason Winderlich, Ben Howlett and Tayte Pears could all bolster the Bombers line up after missing last round’s clash against Greater Western Sydney.

Hocking looks almost certain to return from a calf injury after having not played since Round 12 against Gold Coast at Etihad Stadium.

Winderlich (soreness) and Zaharakis (back) are both also expected to push their claims for a return after sitting out last week’s clash against the Giants.

Also missing against Greater Western Sydney were Howlett (omitted) and Pears (rested) who are both likely to be in contention to play should the coach find a spot for them in the starting 22.

Depending on the make up of Friday night’s side there are plenty of Bombers at VFL level pushing their case for selection and giving the coaching staff headaches in selecting a side to tackle the Hawks.

Joe Daniher and Scott Gumbleton continue to show their marking ability at VFL level providing key targets up forward for the red and black with both likely to be considered to stretch Hawthorn’s defence.

If the Bombers are looking for a small forward option than Alwyn Davey is waiting in the wings and according to VFL coach Hayden Skipworth he played his best game since being dropped to VFL level three weeks ago.

As has been the case all season Kyle Hardingham continues his strong form at in the reserves playing across halfback using his huge leap and pace to set up attack from defence.

Elliott Kavanagh also continues to push for more opportunities at AFL level as he embraces a new role as a defensive midfielder at VFL level.
