In tough times football clubs are as tight-knit as families.

But for opposing club’s to shelve their rivalry and come together, that takes a special set of circumstances.

The tragic story of South Barwon Football Club player and co-coach, Casey Tutungi, has done just that.

The 27 year old was left a quadriplegic following an accident on the football field.

As his brave battle through rehabilitation continues, the wider football community is digging deep to help Casey and his partner, Bridget, who are expecting their first child in November.

The impact of Casey’s predicament has also had an overwhelming impact on the Essendon coaching staff.

Close friends and former Geelong teammates, Matthew Egan and Paul Corrigan have joined the chorus of support.

“He is one of the most mentally tough and courageous players I have come across during my time in footy,” Egan said.

“I have no doubt he will cope with the challenges he faces due to his strong mental resilience.”

“Obviously with a child on the way both he and his partner face a difficult time and many challenges so any help to his fund would be of great assistance.”

Corrigan said it was important that the Essendon and football worlds rallied to support Casey in his tough battle ahead.

“Casey means a lot to Matt and I so hopefully the Essendon family can help us raise money and awareness for his fund to assist in setting up his future.”
