Essendon captain Jobe Watson expects Sydney to win their third premieship in three years by overpowering Hawthorn in Saturday’s AFL Grand Final at the MCG.
Watson believes the combination of Lance Franklin and Kurt Tippet up forward will provide too much firepower for the Swans in a tight tussle.
“I think the Swans will win under ten points,” he said.
“I think it will be a really competitive game but Sydney will just have the fire power to win.”
“It will be a little bit like when they first played but the Swans will just get over the line.”
Franklin is looking to become just the third player in league history to win back-to-back premierships for different teams joining Essendon pair Tom Fitzmaurice and Jim Martin.
Watson has been spending time relaxing over the last few weeks since Essendons exit from the finals with an elimination final loss to North Melbourne.
“It was a very disappointing way to end but I went off to Bali for a few days and then we had the team trip to Hong Kong,” he said.
“It was good, I have a few friends that live there so they put an itinerary together for us and it was great.”
The Bombers captain said he was ‘envious’ of the position Sydney and Hawthorn players find themselves in playing on the biggest stage of the season.
“You become envious of the situation that the players on the ground find themselves in and when it finished it becomes full blown jealousy,” Watson said.
“It is a great day but as a player that still has the opportunity to participate in one you are full of envy.”
