Sixteen Premiership Cups greeted John Worsfold the first time he walked through the doors of the Essendon Football Club and it had an immediate impact.
“I walked into a brand new facility (and thought) this is a modern Club now. It’s a modern club with a great history,” Worsfold said during Thursday night’s Member Forum.
“The first thing that hits you is 16 Premiership Cups… what an amazing sight.
“I’ve come for a Club where I was pretty proud to look at three.”
Taking in as much of the rich history as possible in his short time at the Club, Worsfold has now set his sights on building on the Essendon legacy.
Throughout the coaching selection process, the Essendon selection panel was impressed by Worsfold’s vision for the future.
“I worked extremely hard to present my views on the game. I didn’t try to win the job by saying things I didn’t believe in,” Worsfold said.
“I wanted to take on a position where my beliefs and my thoughts totally lined up with what the Essendon Football Club stand for, and what they’re looking for in the future.
“I believe so much that everyone matters, and I’m very proud to ‘Don The Sash’.”
“What we’re all about now is building on that history by looking to the future.”
