The Minister for the Respect Agenda has announced funding of $50,000 for GLoBALL, a joint initiative of the Essendon Football Club and Cricket Victoria which aims to help 5,000 international students connect with local communities through sports.

The GLoBALL program gets international students involved in activities including game attendance, sports clinics, tours and banner making, and matches participants with ambassadors recruited from the membership and fan base of both sporting organisations. A shared passion for sport provides an ideal platform for promoting understanding of difference and diversity as well as involvement in the community, both of which are important focus areas under the Respect Agenda.

The funding will help to expand the program through relationships with additional TAFEs, colleges and other organisations to connect with international students and new migrants. The partnership will also create opportunities for participants to get involved in their local communities through sporting clubs.

This is the third project to receive partnership funding under the Respect Agenda, reflecting the Minister's role in developing innovative initiatives that promote respectful behaviour. Partnership funding under the Respect Agenda recognises the value of community-led initiatives that address the six key focus areas as well as underlying issues that contribute to a lack of respect.
