Essendon stalwarts Maddi Gay, Maddy Prespakis and Georgia Nanscawen will be in the running for the AFL Players’ AFLW MVP Award on Tuesday night, presented by KPMG.
Nominated by their peers, the trio were standouts throughout the entire campaign, with inaugural Bombers Prespakis and Nanscawen a dynamic duo in the midfield, while Gay was commanding in the back half.
In her first season with the club, Gay was rewarded with All Australian honours for the first time in her career – finding consistency in her body, the former Demon was a mainstay defence throughout 2024 and averaged 20 disposals per game.
Prespakis continued to play her role as one of the Dons’ prime movers this season.
The three-time All Australian and former AFLW Best and Fairest averaged 23 disposals per game across all 12 matches this season, despite an early injury limiting her time-on-ground in the Elimination Final defeat to Fremantle.
Nanscawen enjoyed a career-best campaign in 2024, continuing her ascent to one of the league’s premier midfielders.
The 32-year-old averaged 23 disposals, six tackles and six clearances per game as an inside midfielder, following on from her solid efforts in 2023 and adding to her comeback story following a serious knee injury sustained in 2022.
