Tom’s mum Louise first noticed something was wrong when he was struggling to keep his eyes forward during a game at his local footy Club.
She took him straight from the game to see an optometrist who told them that there was unusual pressure coming from the brain which was impairing his vision and to take him straight to the emergency.
Within hours he was operated on and the fluid build up on the brain was released.
If it had not been for Louise’s quick action doctors believed that that Tom would have lost his eyesight within 24 hours.
We met Tom back in 2013 after he was first diagnosed with a brain tumour.
An Essendon fanatic, Tom was able to tour the club with his favourite player Brendon Goddard in what was a special day for his entire family.
At eight-years old Tom would undergo a a gruelling 10 hour surgery to remove the tumour positioned in the corner of his brain.
Thankfully the surgery was a success and, two years on, Tom is well on the road to recovery after another positive meeting with his doctors last week.
Brendon Goddard has kept a keen eye on Tom’s recovery.
Upon hearing of the latest news, Goddard extended an invitation for Tom to come and join him and the rest of the team for a training session at the True Value Solar Centre and invitation that Tom did not have to think twice about accepting.
Today, Tom took to the field with the whole team participating in a number of drills, before watching on the sideline with the one and only Dustin Fletcher.
Tom left the club with a signed pair of Goddard’s boots, a footy signed by the whole team and an open invitation to come back whenever he wanted.
We wish Tom the best with his recovery and hope to see him back soon!
