Brent Stanton says the Essendon fans will be a key motivator for the remainder of the season.
The Bombers win against Melbourne on Saturday ended a run of five straight losses.
Despite that, Essendon’s membership tally is edging close to 60,000.
“We just want to do our best for our fans,” Stanton said.
“Hopefully they all get out there on Friday night, they’ve supported us through everything and we really want to just give back to them.”
Stanton is confident the team can soon become a premiership contender once again.
“It’s been a great football club for a long time… the history is still there, yes it might be a little bit of a bleak period at the moment, but I have no doubts this football club will get back to the top.”
Essendon took a step in the right direction on the weekend with a gritty win over Melbourne.
The side was missing a number of experienced players, opening the door for some fresh talent to show what they can do.
“It was probably one of the most enjoyable games on the weekend, just playing with those young players,” Stanton said.
“It brought back memories of when I first got to the football club.”
Stanton said the team is already turning its attention to the match against North Melbourne on Friday night.
The sides met in round seven with the Kangaroos winning by 11 points.
