Essendon Football Club is pleased to announce it has passed a historic membership milestone, with 50,000 members signing up prior to Christmas.
To celebrate the festive milestone, Senior Coach, John Worsfold, paid a special visit to a family of Essendon members.
The current membership tally stands at 51,124, and the Bombers are on track to sign more than 70,000 members this season.
CEO, Xavier Campbell, said the milestone demonstrated the Club is heading in the right direction.
“Our members are the lifeblood of our Club, and to have 50,000 signed on before Christmas is a phenomenal achievement,” Campbell said.
“There is a great sense of optimism around the Club ahead of the upcoming season. We play an exciting brand of football, we have a talented list and with continued hard work over the summer, we are excited about what 2018 can bring.
"Our members continue to be the most loyal and passionate in the competition and there is no better time to be a part of the Essendon journey."
Senior Coach, John Worsfold, praised the members for their incredible continued support.
“It’s the first time we’ve ever been able to achieve this many members before Christmas, it is really significant for where we’re at,” Worsfold said.
“In my brief time at Essendon I’ve seen how supportive, how loyal and how resilient the supporters have been and hopefully they’re excited about next year and beyond, so that’s why they’ve all joined up so quickly.
“I think everyone has got that high expectation that we’re going to be a better team next year and that’s certainly what we’re driving for.”
Last season the Club set a record of 67,791 members by achieving 46,000 members by Christmas 2016.
