There were a number of standout performers for the VFL side in their win over Geelong. The AFL team will be tough to break into this week given the AFL side also had an impressive win over the Cats… but here are some of the top players from the weekend.
Tom Bellchambers
Bellchambers kicked three goals in the final quarter against Geelong. He took five contested marks and six uncontested marks.
The ruckman has been averaging 30 hit outs over his four VFL matches.
He has also been strong in front of goals, booting 6 goals this season.
Craig Bird
Bird was a major ball winner on Saturday, finishing with 37 disposals, six marks and one goal. He has been named in the best players twice this season.
He has been strong in the contest, laying 20 tackles this season.
Bird has averaged 27 disposals across the first five rounds.
Martin Gleeson
Gleeson was dominant on the weekend against the Cats.
He finished with 23 disposals, four marks and laid two tackles.
The 22 year old has played five games this season for the AFL side, averaging 14 disposals and two tackles.
Brent Stanton
Stanton was a standout for Essendon on the weekend. He took eight strong marks in the midfield and finished with 24 disposals.
He has averaged six marks and 17 disposals in the AFL this season.
His AFL credentials are unquestioned and he did his case for a quick call-up no harm against the Cats.

Alex Marklew
Marklew was impressive against Geelong. He kicked three goals, took six marks and finished with 16 disposals.
He was quiet in his first VFL match against Port Melbourne, but showed he’s more than capable on the weekend and can also fill a number of different roles.
