Famous Essendon family the Danihers’ contribution to Australian Rules Football has been honoured with a giant Sherrin in their home town of Ungerie, New South Wales.
The four Daniher brothers – Terry, Neale, Anthony and Chris – were all in attendance as the Bland Shire Council unveiled ‘The Big Sherrin’ before playing in a charity match to raise funds for Fight MND.
Neale Daniher – who suffers from MND – is one of the charity’s greatest ambassadors, working tirelessly to raise awareness of the disease in order to find a cure.

The legendary Bombers were joined by several other former players at the event including Essendon’s Stephen Carey, Garry Foulds, Bryan Wood and Paul Hamilton as well as former Swans star Paul Kelly.
Bland Shire Mayor Tony Lord said the council was thrilled to recognize the contribution of the Daniher family, not just to football, but also to the wider community.
“We are excited about the many short and long term benefits this iconic project will bring to the local community as well as the wider region,” Lord said.
The Daniher legacy lives on at Essendon, with Anthony’s son Joe set for another big year after finishing third in the Coleman Medal race last year with 65 goals.
