Orazio Fantasia’s time on the ground against Gold Coast was limited, but his influence was significant.
The 19 year old started as the sub and wasn’t activated until late in the third term but he still managed 11 possessions, two tackles and two goals.
One of the those goals has been nominated for goal of the year, you can vote here.
Fantasia’s display was no surprise to former Bombers champion Matthew Lloyd.
Just a few weeks ago the club’s all time leading goal kicker wrote an article where he tried to predict what the Bombers line-up might look like in a couple of seasons.
“A few probably raised their eyebrows, I had Fantasia in the side,” Lloyd said.
“I only named about 15 or 16 guys so I think he’s someone that has got the line breaking speed that Essendon is craving.
“He’s got good skills and can kick goals and he’s an excitement machine.
“He’s got all the tools there, he’s just got to get a bit stronger.
“I could see him playing 15-20 games next year.”
Another young player to impress against the Suns was Nick O’Brien.
The 22 year old collected 31 disposals.
After serving a long apprenticeship in the VFL, Lloyd said O’Brien needs a strong pre-season to ensure his fitness reaches an elite level.
“The hardest part is finding the footy, he can do that,” Lloyd said.
“I think he’s just got to get as fit as he possibly can.
“I think if he marked himself really hard, he’d put himself up against (Joel) Selwood and (Sam) Mitchell – these type of players, even Dyson Heppell, and he’d probably say I’m not there yet in regards to fitness.
“He’s a ball magnet, I think he can be a 100 game players for the club.
“I just think he’s got to get super-fit over this next off-season.”
