In its first competitive hit out for 2006, Essendon has beaten reigning premiers the Sydney Swans tonight by 19 points in an exhibition match at the North Sydney Oval. In front of a crowd of more than 8,000, it was a less than impressive victory, but heading into NAB Cup next weekend the Bombers will still be able to take a lot from the game.
It has been almost four years since Chris Heffernan pulled on the Essendon jumper. He played the last of his 97 games with Essendon in 2002 before being traded to Melbourne. But the AFL wheel has turned and he finds himself back at Essendon and just a couple of days away from wearing the red and black colours again.
