Essendon has put their season back on track with a 12-point win over St Kilda at Etihad Stadium today.

Utility Brent Prismall said the Bombers’ ability to maintain their game plan in the second half was enough to get them over the line.

“It was pleasing to walk away with the win because it gives you a little bit of a reward for your efforts,” Prismall said.

“We weren’t playing our best footy in the first half but it was good to see the guys get our game up and going in the second half and that is what really nailed it for us.”

Strong defensive pressure around the ground held the Saints accountable, with the Bombers’ hunger for the football showing out as they sealed their third win of the year.

“Our defence is something that we are focusing on every week and it was pleasing to see the team applying strong pressure today,” Prismall said.

""I suppose the attacking part of the game comes naturally to a lot of blokes so defensively we need to improve and while we are getting better each week, we still have a long way to go.”

Ruckman David Hille was impressive in the Bombers win, rucking hard and kicking four majors while young guns Ben Howlett, Travis Colyer and Jake Melksham also worked hard around the ground.

“I thought it was a really good team effort today,” Prismall said.

“I thought David Hille and Patrick Ryder lent some support out of the ruck and that really helped us today.

“The younger guys were really good again too. Benny Howlett did a good job playing on some experienced blokes like Dal Santo so he was one that really stepped up.

“Hopefully the coaching staff will keep giving them opportunities and they will keep improving as the year goes on.”
