Essendon midfielder Brent Stanton has revealed the club’s senior players will be taking a more hands-on approach in developing the younger players next season.
Stanton, a member of the club’s leadership group, praised Essendon's newest batch of youngsters for their willingness and eagerness to learn.
“The most important thing about this football club is that we have fantastic kids who are willing to learn and willing to work hard. I think that’s a good recipe to be able to succeed,” Stanton said.
“We've got the coaches to be able to help them get their football to the level we need them to be at, and I've got no doubt the senior players are out there helping them again.
“The quicker we can fast-track the younger guys in terms of helping them learn the game, and getting their bodies adapted to an AFL level...the better the club will be. We know we’re a young group and we’re still developing.”
Stanton, who did not go to Colorado for the high-altitude camp, revealed he was working closely with Neil Craig, Head of Coaching Development and Strategy, to further develop his own leadership skill set.
“Training back in Melbourne was a good opportunity to development my leadership amongst the younger guys,” he said.
“I’ve spent a fair bit of time with Neil and I am working with him on some leadership skills. You can tell he has the experience already.
“Because of that, the most information we can get out of him as possible, I think it’s really going to benefit the whole playing group.”
The Bombers will have a two-week break over the Christmas period before returning to the True Value Solar Centre to recommence pre-season training on January 6.
