Essendon VFL Operations Manager Matt Little said the team was looking to add some senior experience to the group ahead of the 2014 season.

The club last week announced the singing of former Fremantle forward Josh Mellington to the VFL list for the upcoming season.

Little said there was still a number of positions up for grabs over the coming months.

“We still have a number of spots we are looking to fulfill through players that we have training with us,” he said.

“We are hoping to have a few more big signings after the Christmas break.”

With the retirement of David Hille and Nathan Lovett-Murray last season the club’s VFL side is on the search for players with AFL and VFL experience.

“Any time you look at the age demographic of our AFL and VFL group then it is obvious we are quiet young,” Little said.

“I think it is pretty important for us to get players that have the ability to bring training standards and leadership to the group.”

“We really want some experienced guys to mentor these other players about what VFL footy is all about.”

“The sort of player we are chasing will have AFL experience as well so what we would be hoping is for that whoever we sign is able to drive standards up among the group.”

The Bombers have already announced ten signings for the upcoming season including best and fairest winner Ben Duscher after a standout 2013 campaign.
