Essendon captain Jobe Watson hopes the team’s late season losing streak will be the catalyst to drive the team to a more successful 2013 season.
After losing their last seven games of the season Watson said the Bombers were in for a long pre-season campaign.
“It will be a long summer for that to sit in the gut and hopefully it will burn for the guys to improve next year,” he said.
“Certainly in the second half of the year there are some areas we need to improve on.
“We will have to look at what we did well and what we didn’t do well this year.”
Essendon coach James Hird last week admitted the club was interested in securing the services of St. Kilda star Brendon Goddard during the upcoming free-agency period.
Watson said Goddard would be a welcome addition to the Bombers midfield.
“You look at the type of player Brendon is and I think any team would like to have him in there and certainly we are no different,” he told FOX Footy.
“He is a tremendous player who has played at such a high level for a long time and would be an asset to any club.”
Watson was last night honoured with his first ever All Australian selection being picked at centre in the 2012 side.
