Essendon Coach John Worsfold says his attention is firmly on tomorrow’s match, as he heads to Perth to take on the side where he’s spent most of his footballing life.
Worsfold captained West Coast to two premierships in the 90’s and coached the club to its Grand Final triumph in 2006.
The Eagles are celebrating the ten-year anniversary of that win over Sydney this week.
But the now Bombers Coach said his attention is on tomorrow night’s match and not his history with the Eagles.
“I’m pretty focused on Thursday night and really don’t have too much focus on anything else in that regard,” Worsfold said.
“I’m not focused on reunions, I’m focused on looking forward to a great challenge on Thursday night.”
Worsfold played 209 games for the Eagles and coached the side on 277 occasions, but he said his feelings heading in to Thursday’s match are just like any other week.
“Really no different, other than knowing it’s going to be a tough game,” he said.
“They play very well on that ground. They’re looking to run into their best form still, so they know they’ve got some work ahead, so we’re expecting a very tough game.
“Our attitude is what we take over is what is really important for us and how we want to attack the game – that’s what we’re challenging ourselves on.”
Worsfold said defender Matt Dea has recovered from a groin complaint and was in contention for a call-up.
Essendon’s VFL side is coming off an impressive win over Werribee. A number of Bombers put their hand up for selection with a strong showing in that game, but the Coach said getting the right amount of miles in the legs is another consideration.
“For a few of those guys, it’s just consistent ground time now,” he said.
“We don’t want to bring them in just because they’ve played one VFL game. We want them to string together not only some good form but consistent ground form and workload.”
