Essendon’s fitness staff will take a cautious approach in managing Mark Baguley’s return.
The two time winner of Essendon’s most courageous player award underwent surgery earlier this month hoping to alleviate a persistent knee injury, which had proved troublesome for an extended period.
While the club is still hopeful Baguley may return for the final part of this year, they’re awaiting advice from his surgeon.
Baguley was scheduled to meet with surgeon Julian Feller on Tuesday afternoon.
“We’ll get a lot more information after that meeting today,” High Performance Manager Justin Crow said.
“(We’ll see) whether Bags has a go at returning this year or what’s the best thing for him looking ahead.”
The vice-captain had played consistently throughout 2016, providing Essendon’s young backline with some much needed experience.
Baguley’s trademark pressure was also used in a defensive forward role at times throughout the year.
