The Bombers’ VFL side will call on talent from across Australia to fill its line-up for Sunday’s clash against the Southport Sharks in Queensland.
With AFL Victoria making the decision to proceed with VFL games in Queensland this weekend, Essendon only has 10 players available in the Sunshine State as part of the AFL-listed travelling party.
General manager of football Josh Mahoney said the club needed to find 12 players to represent the Bombers in the VFL this weekend.
“We had to act quickly but through a lot of hard work and many phone calls to players across different states, we are pleased to welcome who will represent the Bombers on Sunday.
“We are pleased that former AFL-listed players including Alex Rance and Paddy McCartin have put their hands up to assist, and we thank all players for being so willing to put on the boots for Sunday’s game.
“This year has seen so many unique situations and this is just another example of the measures that teams will go through to continue the season.
“This is a game that will proceed as normal for premiership points, and it will be a great challenge for the group."
The Bombers will face off against Southport Sharks at 12:05pm on Sunday and will be broadcast on Kayo Freebies.
