Essendon remains confident of luring Paul Chapman to the club during the Delisted Free Agency period, which starts on November 1.
In an interview with Bomber TV, List Manager Adrian Dodoro revealed negotiations with the triple premiership player had been positive.
“It’s taking a bit of time but we’re finally getting there in terms of getting him on the list,” Dodoro said.
“He’ll come on the list as a delisted free agent on the first of November and we’re looking forward to getting Paul Chapman on the list next season.”
Dodoro said Chapman’s relationship with former coach Mark Thompson is a motivating factor for the dual All-Australian to make the move to Essendon.
“I think it was, obviously looking at our list we realised the demographics and with Stewart Crameri requesting a trade it was really important we found someone that can play not only forward but up in the midfield and he should give us that flexibility.," Dodoro said.
“The thing that swayed it for us was his intensity and desire to be a really good player, even turning 32 years of age let’s not hide that fact, he just wants to keep playing and you can see he’ll be really good for the change room and that’s what we’re excited about.”
