Melburnian punk band Picket Palace has released a sensational tribute to an Essendon star through its latest single named after brilliant Bomber Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti.

Hailing from Brunswick in Melbourne’s vibrant northern suburbs, Picket Palace’s members describe their music as “razor-sharp punk belters and anxious, rambling reflections with an enthusiasm that is innocent, unpretentious and completely infectious”.

Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti’ – of the song variety – is a remarkably catchy message of appreciation for the gun forward that is sure to get any football fan’s blood pumping.

The new single matches McDonald-Tipungwuti’s dashing and entertaining style on the field, and guitarist and vocalist Jack O’Connell says is was the band’s aim to emulate the Bomber’s football in their own musical way.

“That’s what we love about ‘Walla’; how exhilarating and electrifying his footy is,” O’Connell said in a press release.

“He seems like an incredibly humble, unassuming person but he plays with such ferocity and tenacity that you can’t help but get excited any time he appears on screen.

“That’s how we wanted the song to feel.”

The sweetly chaotic song is littered with praise for McDonald-Tipungwuti, particularly his famous defensive acts, and it is paired perfectly with an equally-outstanding official video full of surprising gems (see above, it is a must-see clip).

The single will be launched at The John Curtin Hotel on Friday, July 12, which pleasingly won’t clash with Essendon’s huge contest against North Melbourne the following day at Marvel Stadium.

‘Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti’ is the first single from the band’s upcoming second release, ‘The Footy Record’, which is expected to be out just in time for the AFL finals series.
