Dyson Heppell has been passed fit and is set to line up in the club’s season opener against Sydney.
The midfielder’s pre-season was interrupted by a knee injury but he’s now back in training ahead of Saturday’s match.
“He’s fully trained today and he will play which is terrific”, Club Doctor Bruce Reid said.
“We were always hopeful he’d play but he’s come through with flying colours.”
Tayte Pears is also on track to feature in the opening rounds.
The East Perth product struggled with a foot problem last season.
“He’s just slowly built up and done full rehab and now today he’s joined in which is terrific. He’s had a very ordinary run,” Reid said.
But the news isn’t as good for veteran Jason Winderlich.
The 30 year old has suffered a back injury and will miss the opening part of the season.
“It’s not his old injury, it’s the disc above so that’s a real setback for him. So he won’t play in the foreseeable future,” Reid said.
Despite Winderlich’s injury, Reid is happy with the overall fitness of the group.
“We’re pretty happy the way its gone because probably eight weeks ago there might have been six or seven that weren’t ready to play so the rehab boys and the physios have done a very good job.”
