Essendon’s recruiting team is pleased they were able to secure the final piece of their list management strategy in this morning’s Rookie Draft.
The wanted to secure a young ruckman and selected the 200cm, Gach Nyuon with their first pick.
“He’s come through the AIS program, plays at Dandenong,” List and Recruiting Manager Adrian Dodoro said.
“He’s a young man that hasn’t played much football but he’s an athletically gifted player.
“He’s going to take a little bit of time so we’re going to have to be patient with him because he won’t play league football next year.
“We’re taking a long term view because there just doesn’t seem to be a lot of ruckmen around at this point in time.
“He’ll excite Essendon fans but we just need to be a bit patient with him.”
The Dons also landed Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti, Will Hams and Tom Wallis.
McDonald-Tipungwuti has been a regular in the VFL side in recent seasons, while Wallis, the son of premiership defender Dean Wallis, had a strong season for the Calder Cannons.
“There is some exciting talent at the footy club and I’m sure our fans will be rapt to see we’ve got some real genuine talent at the club,” Dodoro said.
