Essendon Captain Jobe Watson says there is no better time to join the Bomber Army than now.
The club has set an ambitious target of 50,000 members and Watson has urged all supporters to unite behind the team and become a member in season 2011.
“I think it is a really exciting time for members to re-join or for supporters to join as members for the first time. This is a chance to really be a part of the new coaching group and the club going forward,” Watson said.
The response has already been encouraging after the membership tally surpassed 20,000 by the end of November for the first time in the clubs history.
“We are only as strong as the support we can get from the people around us. The reality is you need strong membership support to be a successful club and that is why membership is so important,” he said.
As the hard work continues this pre-season, Watson says the Bombers new coaching panel has had a significant impact on player attitude and discipline at training.
“It is something the players really want to keep going and the coaches are certainly helping with that,” he said.
Essendon Football Club today launched its official 2011 “Stand As One” membership campaign, with new coach James Hird telling Bomber fans that the Club needed to unite as one. “If our great Club is to be considered a powerhouse, we must now stand as one and show the rest of the competition the red and black army is a force to be reckoned with again,” Hird said.
