In his own opinion he may have had a below average season, but to Essendon fans Damien Peverill is still one of the shining lights around the club. His courage and toughness continued to impress them, and although his rating was down from a 7.49 in 2004 to 6.62 this year they praised him on another consistent season.

What some of the Essendon fans had to say:

""Much is said about Johnson and Johnson but for me this guy is the engine room for the Bombers. Runs hard, chases, puts on pressure and makes contests. He is a great tagger who can get plenty of ball himself."" (Damian Davidson)

""Another consistent year. Doesn’t get the attention the more higher profile players get. But when the umpire clears the pack to bounce the ball Pev is usually at the bottom."" (Tony Cosentino)

""Tough, rugged and courageous. Essendon fans are beginning to expect nothing less from this gutsy midfielder. Keep it up for next year!"" (Jake Sluiter)

""Proved this year that he was one of the leagues best taggers. When not tagging he seems to always be able to find himself in lots of space and this allows him to provide good delivery to the forwards."" (Rian Davis)

""Started the year slowly but was one of our best players in the second half of the season. Committed and finds plenty of the football. Should try to contribute to the scoreboard more, maybe with 15 goals as a target in 2006. (Duncan Young)

""Tough, prolific ball winner who puts in the hard yards. Rarely plays a bad game and is typically workmanlike in the way he goes about it. Essential player for us."" (Mark Doran)

""Pev had another consistent year in the Bombers midfield as a defensive midfielder. While he may not be flashy or anything, he is one of the hardest working midfielders in the game and is an important part of our side."" Phil Perry

""Cannot fault Pev on effort. What he lacks in skills he definitely makes up for in determination. May need to go back to being a gun tagger if he wants a game though as others begin to overtake him in the midfield."" (B.J Pickett)
