Essendon Football Club is delighted to welcome Paul Brasher and Chris Heffernan to the club’s Board.   

 

Paul Brasher joins the Board as Finance Director filling the casual vacancy following the retirement of long standing finance director Tim Jonas.

 

Essendon chairman David Evans said Brasher will be a welcome addition to the Board.

 

“He brings great spirit, a love for the club and a shared vision for creating long term success,” Evans said.

 

Brasher was a Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers from 1982-2009 and Global Chairman from 2001-2009. He is currently a Director of Perpetual Limited, a Director of Incitec Pivot Limited and is a member of the Audit, Risk & Compliance Committee and the Performance & Remuneration Committee for both companies.   

 

“His experience as Global Chairman of one of the world’s largest accounting firms and as a Non Executive Director covering a combination of public companies, private interests and not for profit organisations will be invaluable to the club and its Board.”

 

Evans paid tribute to Jonas for his outstanding service to the club and said he leaves behind a legacy of professionalism and integrity.

 

“Tim has been an outstanding finance director for the last 15 years,” Evans said.

 

“Tim has overseen a period of financial stability and financial governance that will leave a lasting legacy.”

 

“On behalf of the Essendon Football Club, I would like to thank Tim for his tireless work and wish him all the best for the future.”

 

Essendon premiership player Chris Heffernan will fill the vacancy left by retiring director and former Chairman Ray Horsburgh.  

 

Evans said Heffernan provided a great range of skills set for the Board.

 

“Heffernan’s football knowledge and business acumen make him an outstanding addition to the club’s Board,” Evans said.

 

“He is well respected as a former player and highly rated as an emerging business leader. A great combination for the club’s Board.”

 

Heffernan played 170 AFL games for the Bombers and is a member of the 2000 premiership team.

 

Since his retirement in 2007, he worked at Deutsche Bank in New York for three years in the asset and funds management business reporting to the Global COO.

 

He returned to Melbourne in 2010 and joined Ernst and Young as a member of the mergers and acquisitions team that assists large private and ASX listed companies achieve their strategic objectives. 

 

Evans thanked Horsburgh for his great service to the club and said he leaves a lasting legacy of good governance.

 

“Ray has been a tireless worker for the stability, profitability and on field success of the Essendon Football Club,” Evans said.

 

“He has left a lasting legacy of quality Board Governance and succession planning as well as fostering a period of development of the club across all levels both on field and off the field.”

 

“On behalf of the Essendon Football Club, I would like to thank Ray for his tireless work and wish him all the best for the future.”

 

Horsburgh has been asked to remain involved with the club as Club Patron as well as chairing The Bill Hutchison Foundation and The Hall of Fame Selection Committee.
