Lloyd out with calf injury
Essendon Team Manager, David Calthorpe, said it's disappointing that Captain, Matthew Lloyd, will miss tomorrow night's game with a calf injury after kicking 10 goals in the first three rounds. “Matthew wasn’t able to complete a fitness test today so has been ruled out of tomorrow’s night’s clash,” Calthorpe said.
""He had a light training session on Tuesday and had a kicking session yesterday but felt some soreness later that night.
“We don’t know the extent of the injury just yet but we are hoping that it is only minor calf strain.
“There is no particular incident that Matthew is aware of that caused the injury so it’s difficult to assess if it’s a result of a knock that he received or is simply a strain.
“He will miss this week’s game and we will monitor the injury over the next week.”
The club doesn’t believe the calf injury is related to Lloyd’s previous hamstring injury.
Essendon’s first selection in last year's National Draft, David Myers, will play his first game in the VFL for the Bendigo Bombers this weekend. Pick number 6 overall, Myers has been recovering from a slight hamstring strain and is now ready to return to football when Bendigo take on a winless Werribee at Bartercard Oval this Sunday.
