In other news, Mark McVeigh is set to return for the Bombers this weekend. McVeigh missed yesterday's match after being forced from the field with back spasms during an intra-club match last weekend. ""He probably could have played against Sydney but their wasn't any point risking him. He'll be right this weekend,"" Essendon football manager Matthew Drain said.
Chris Heffernan has fully recovered from osteitis pubis and the fitness staff will make a decision this week whether he plays against Port Adelaide. Steven Alessio (shoulder) will miss again while Paul Salmon will continue his modified pre-season program and won't play. Draft selections Andrew Welsh (calf) and Simon O'Keefe (corked thigh) are both available.
Essendon's match with Port Adelaide commences at 6.10pm and will be shown on Channel 10. The telecast will commence at 6.00pm and the game will be called by Steve Quartermain and Michael Christian. Robert Walls will do special comments with Gerard Whateley boundary riding.
