Essendon youngster Mark McVeigh better stick to what he does best if his recent efforts behind the bar are anything to go by. McVeigh was recently in Noosa on a promotional visit and it was widely advertised that he would be at Cato's Bar to serve a few drinks to the locals as part of his visit. Unfortunately for McVeigh, one of the locals that particular week was Essendon chief executive Peter Jackson who was on holidays. It was hardly surprising that once Jackson realised McVeigh was in town and pouring a few frothy ones he decided to go and pay him a visit.

""He got the shock of his life when he saw we walk up to the bar,"" Jackson said. ""I ordered a beer from him and let's just say he didn't look all that comfortable pouring it."" In fact McVeigh it seems had no idea what he was doing and proceeded to pour a beer that looked more like an ice-cream. He turned the tap off, grabbed a new pot and tried again - same result. ""I was going to ask him if I got a spoon with it but I thought better of it,"" Jackson said. Finally the head barman took over.

""Mark asked me if there was anything else he could get me,"" Jackson said. ""I asked for a Riesling and he said 'What's that?'"" It would seem a very good thing that McVeigh (or should that be Mr Whippee) can play football because his future lies there rather than behind a bar. It seems that's what the owners of the bar decided as well. McVeigh was supposed to serve customers from 6pm until 8pm. At 6.30pm he was nowhere to be found.
