Essendon excitement machine, Alwyn Davey, will miss the rest of the 2008 season after his surgeon today confirmed he has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will require a full reconstruction.

Team manager, David Calthorpe, said the results are major blow for Davey and the team.

“The results of his scans confirmed our worst fears and Alwyn will miss the rest of the season,” Calthorpe said. “He will have surgery in the next week or so and will then start his rehabilitation program.

“The injury takes about 10-12 months to recover and, all going well, we hope to have him back for Round 1 next year.

“Alwyn is obviously disappointed but at the same time he wants to do everything he can to get back and play for the club next year. He will be placed on the long-term injury list but we won’t be rushing in a replacement until they are ready.""
